The End of The World

There seems to be much talk about some big earth-changing event in the near future. I know through the years there has always been this type of talk but let's talk about now.
I have heard Chris Moon suggest that the telephone to the dead has some relation to our way of life changing somehow and the possibility that unauthorized people using the box are going to open doors to the other side that will cause havok.
Then there was the scientists who were going to create a miniature black hole and people were worried the force from it could not be controlled and it would devour the earth.
The circles of light with shapes in them are said to be a sign of the 'great educator' or christ coming to save us.
What are your thoughts on the modern day doomsday predictions? What kinds of Earth-shattering events have you heard about being on the way? Why do we keep thinking the end is near? Shouldn't the 1999 thing have taught us something?

I think you hit the nail on the head; there has always been talk of the end. I think some people thrive on the idea..why, I don't know! lol... Religion has always predicted the end is imminent and to find salvation....from a pretend God.. WHATEVER! LOL........

Chris Moon's comment, imo, is senseless. How could a BOX open doors that are going to create havoc? Is he talking about Pandora's Box? lol To even say that bad spirits can 'only' come through a box is ridiculous. I think he doesn't want anyone messing with a box but him......sure looks that way to me. As far as bad spirits, I don't believe in them anyway, so his message, to me, is a moot point.

I don't think scientists would be that irresponsible either. After all, they aren't immune to disaster any more than anyone else. It's kind of like suggesting that a pilot would do something stupid, thinking he'd survive, but no one else would.

I don't think the end is near unless we get nuked and I don't think that's about to happen..lol. Cayce predicted that the earth's axis would shift (poles would reverse) around 2000 and that never happened. The Mayan calendar (2012) is another 'end days issue'. Hey, a calendar has to stop somewhere...but it doesn't mean the earth is going to end.

Hey, I heard a really good one. Some dude predicted that since we are pumping so much oil out of the earth that eventually the earth will be too light (weight) and we'll be flung out of orbit and into space. Ha ha ha.........

Ok, I guess you now know my feelings on doomsday prophets...... Live for the moment, in the moment and don't worry about the end. No one knows when 'their' end will come..... Make each day, hour, minute count. :-)

As far as I can tell it would be impossible to have any real discussion about stories of the end of the world without bringing religion into it.

What about getting nuked? No religion there, although people would be praying to beat the band.

I can remember as a teenager going to town with my friends on the city bus and hearing some nut proclaiming the world is coming to an end by some date soon...usually by end of whatever month it happened to be at the time...never happened! These nuts have been around for a long time and will continue to be around. Also have heard the tale about pumping the oil out like we are doing and the results of this.....Has any one thought that just maybe the Mayan calendar ended when it did because whoever or whatever led to their disappearing caused this....and that there might not be anything sinister to this time frame? Think about the 2000 talk....Y2K....and nothing. Global warming....don't buy into this either.....Yes...there might come a day when something does happen.....but whether it will be due to the Mayan Calendar, getting nuked, comet hitting us, or that volcano on that island off the coast of Africa exploding and a chunk of that island falling into the sea and causing a huge tsumani and engulfing the entire east coast......or who knows what....if it happens....it happens....not much any of us can do about it....so I don't worry....too much other going on here in our country to worry about.
